The Mentor’s Eye
About The Mentor’s Eye
The Mentor’s Eye is a self-paced, asynchronous mentor coaching education program for experienced coaches, mentors, and practicing mentor coaches who support coach development.
It is designed to help you see coaching more clearly, name what happened more precisely, and offer feedback that develops the coach while honoring their voice, culture, presence, and style. Built around the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies and designed to support Mentor Coach Specialization readiness, the program focuses on ethical practice, role clarity, mentor coaching agreements, formative appraisal, evidence-based developmental feedback, coach skill development over time, and group mentor coaching.
You’ll move through a scenario-based learning experience built from written lessons, coaching transcripts, calibration labs, reflection prompts, feedback-writing practice, Mentor Mirror AI-supported feedback, required artifacts, and a final knowledge check. Throughout, you’ll practice identifying observable coaching evidence, naming client impact, distinguishing developmental feedback from evaluation, and supporting coach growth in alignment with ICF standards.
Who This Is For
Which MCS Pathway Are You On?
There are two ways to earn the ICF Mentor Coach Specialization. Both lead to the same designation. The Mentor’s Eye provides the mentor coaching education at the center of each.
Credit for Prior Learning Pathway
For coaches already mentoring who have supported five clients to an ICF credential within the past three years.
The Mentor’s Eye provides the full 10-hour education requirement for this pathway, which ICF allows to be completed fully asynchronously.
Also required by ICF, completed separately:
- An active PCC, MCC, or renewed ACC credential
- ICF evaluation training (ACC BARS, PCC Markers, or MCC BARS) for each level you seek
- Evidence of five mentor coaching clients who earned a credential in the past three years
Standard Pathway
For coaches building mentor coaching from the ground up, without the prior mentee experience the other pathway requires.
The Mentor’s Eye gives you the first 10 of the 41 mentor coaching education hours this pathway requires.
Also required by ICF, completed separately:
- An active credential
- The remaining hours to reach 41 total
- At least 50% of the full 41 hours completed through live instruction
- ICF evaluation training (ACC BARS, PCC Markers, or MCC BARS)
The Mentor’s Eye provides mentor coaching education. It does not replace ICF evaluation training, the mentee experience requirement, or any other ICF application step. Requirements can change, so always confirm current details with ICF before applying.
