About Course

There’s a moment before every coaching conversation really begins, before the questions, before the frameworks, before any technique gets used at all. It’s the moment two people decide to sit down together and see what’s possible.

That moment has a name in this program: the porch swing. It’s not your house, and it’s not the client’s house. It’s a space, one you hold together, one where trust, safety, rapport, connection, and respect have to show up before anything else can work.

The Porch Swing Approach is a program that teaches coaches how to build that space intentionally, how to read what a client actually needs before reaching for a tool, and how to work skillfully within the five core ways coaching conversations move, without ever losing the relationship that makes the work real.

This is a way of thinking about presence, trust, and skill together, grounded in real coaching moments, not theory alone.

Course Content

Welcome, Before We Begin
A short introduction to the program, what it is, why it exists, and how to move through it.

Module 1: Sitting Down, Whose Session Is This?
The foundation of the whole approach. Explore the High Five, trust, safety, rapport, connection, respect, and why coaching only works when both people show up to build it together.

Module 2: Finding Your Balance, What Brought You to the Swing
Before any technique, a coach has to know what's actually being asked for. This module introduces two practical tools: reading what a client's uncertainty is really signaling, and inviting the client to directly shape how the session will go.

Module 3: Rocking Together, The Five Ways to Work
With trust and focus established, this module covers the five rhythms a coaching conversation can move through, Collaboration, Action, Reflection, Empathy, and Education, and how a session flows between them without the coach forcing the direction.

Module 4: When the Swing Creaks, Repair, Discomfort, and Real Magic
Not every session feels easy, and this module is about the sessions that don't. Work through real scenarios, a shaky start, a small breach of trust, a moment of resistance, and learn how repair and discomfort are often where the deepest coaching work happens.
