About Course

The Comics Coaching Lab: Barbecue Edition

Six competencies. Six coaching relationships. One backyard table where every hard conversation gets practiced before it matters.

This course walks you through ICF Competencies 3 through 8, Establishes Agreement, Cultivates Trust and Safety, Maintains Presence, Listens Actively, Evokes Awareness, and Facilitates Client Growth, through the same illustrated cast from the Coaching Comics Lab, now gathered around the barbecue.

Each module pairs a comic-style scenario with a real client to coach: Sabrina working through what to focus on when everything feels urgent, Big Jon learning what it means to actually be supported, Kev slowing down instead of solving, Grace finding her voice, Scuba Steve going past the jokes, and Kayleaf writing her next chapter.

Practice live with each client through AI-powered coaching conversations, then get warm, developmental mentor feedback on your session, grounded in the PCC Minimum Skills Requirements, built to help you grow into your next level of mastering the work.

Cultivates Trust and Safety
Coach Big Jon through acknowledging what's real, showing genuine support, affirming what he expresses, and partnering with him as trust builds, the four moves that cultivate safety in every strong coaching relationship.

Maintains Presence
Coach Kev through responding to the whole person, checking in on what he actually wants, letting him choose the session's direction, staying curious, and making room for silence, the five qualities that keep a coach genuinely present with a client.

Listens Actively
Coach Grace through listening for her specific words, her emotions, and her energy shifts, staying curious about how she sees herself and her world, letting her finish speaking, and reflecting back what you heard, the seven qualities of listening that make a client feel truly heard.

Evokes Awareness
Coach Scuba Steve past the jokes and into real awareness, exploring where he's at now, helping him see himself and his situation with new eyes, offering observations loosely, and asking questions with the pace and space to let him do most of the talking.

Facilitates Client Growth
Coach Kayleaf through reflecting on progress, naming what she's learned about herself and her situation, designing what comes next, and closing the session on her own terms, the nine moves that turn insight into real, client-owned growth.

Closing the Cookout
A full look back at everything you've practiced, one coach's journey through all six competencies, and a chance to share what this experience gave you.
